Do you ever get the feeling that when you're browsing a website, or you're on a forum, or maybe you're on tumbler/livejournal/DA, etc.. and you encounter a piece of resource and the person who's "sharing" it, posts 10-20 different rules on how to use it?
It's one of my absolute pet peeves. I'm not talking about artwork, I'm talking about stock, textures, png, brushes, etc...There's a certain point where an artists' "conditions" or "guideliness" on how to use their resource goes from reasonable to obvious signs of a control freak
.
I think it's reasonsable to have a couple these things:
- Commenting when taking (or faving, whatever). it's nice when people tell you that they're using something that you make. It's encouraging and it makes you feel like what you did wasn't a complete waste of time.
- Credit- it's completely acceptable and fair to have this. It's sort of like exchanging money for an item except crediting the artist is priceless and it's nice.
- Not hotlinking- especially if it's on a website b/c it uses up the bandwith. Otherwise, hotlink away (box.net, mediafire, deviantart,etc..)
Then when an artist posts things like this, I'm left asking "really? why did you even put this up as a resource for people to download?" ![]()
I'm not even going to bother using this grandma flower (although i'm pretty sure if I downloaded it and used it, it would be have been awesome).
There just comes a point when too many rules make it difficult for for the person taking to continue downloading. Too many rules like tthat^ implicilty encourage you NOT to download, why would you not want people to use something you spent time on?
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?
Finally added new graphics. I'll just put some samples. As you can see by the amount of banners and signatures, I've been quite busy ![]()
